Cancer of the Woman. We give voice to patients
Cosmocaixa, Barcelona, November 17, 2017
B-Debate CANCER OF WOMEN, dedicates an open session to the role of patient associations and their interaction with research and new possible treatments.
Approximately 3.5 million cancer deaths occur in women worldwide every year (6,000 cases in Catalonia). Despite the scientific advances obtained in the classification of tumor subtypes and the molecular determinants of carcinogenesis, a clear improvement in the prevention and precise treatment of each case is still required.
On November 17 and 18, international experts will meet in Barcelona to discuss the latest advances in cancer research that affects women. Apart from discussing scientific advances, experts want to share with patients, and give them a voice to discuss their point of view and needs, which is essential to guide research and financing efforts more efficiently.
With this purpose, researchers, doctors, patients and their associations will meet in the same space and time, to improve the diagnosis and treatment.
This B-Debate, an initiative of Biocat and the Obra Social "la Caixa", together with the Institut Català d'Oncologia (ICO) and the Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), aim to address the main challenges and current needs and the future of cancer in women, while encouraging the participation of patients and associations in women's cancer research.
