GCAT HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT - QUALITY OF SLEEP

Sleeping is an activity that is needed to restore physical and psychological balance. Human spend an average of one third of their lives sleeping. The ideal time spent sleeping is what allows you to perform activities normally.

Sleep needs for each person are different, based on their age, health and emotional status, family situation and working conditions.

The behavior to schedule daily activities ideally in the morning or afternoon is called chronotype, with two extremes of behavior: individuals lark and owl. In the middle we would have the Hummingbird individuals. These behaviors are associated with a more mental alert state in the morning or in the night. Chronotypes have different biological, genetic, psychosocial, and contextual components.

Individuals classified as owls have a higher risk of having personality disorder, mood, anxiety, substance abuse, insomnia, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, bronchial asthma, type 2 diabetes or infertility.


To improve sleep hygiene, you can do small actions like set a regular schedule, do exercise often, avoid heavy meals or alcohol hours before bed, silence noises and eliminate all possible light.
